Touching My father Trilogy, 1997/2002/2011
Song Dong's Touching My Father trilogy (1997-2011) explores themes of father-son relationships, memory, and loss through a personalized artistic narrative. The work consists of three parts, each presented through video, photography, and installation, reflecting the artist's deep emotions towards his father and his quest for family history. Each part presents multiple facets of the father figure through different media, revealing the complexities and intangible emotional connections within intimate relationships. These works not only serve as a personal memory of the father figure but also offer a philosophical reflection on life and death. Through the Touching My Father trilogy, Song Dong delves into the themes of emotional inheritance and rupture, as well as the formation of individual identity within family and cultural contexts.
